About Us

About Us – Qualifications

The instructing staff at SUPYOFI draw on a wide range of National Governing Body awards to ensure participants get the most out of our sessions in a safe and informative manner. We don’t just hold the correct qualification for SUP sessions but also Mountaineering, Mountain Bike Coaching, Water Safety and Rescue, as well as a host of water sports.

SUPYOFI instructors have all been awarded the SUP Qualifications through Canoe Wales/ Canoe England who are the Nationally recognised awarding body for SUP instructors in Wales and England.

About us – Meet the team

Rhys Asbridge

Rhys has been paddling for almost 20 years. In that time he has paddled all over the UK, France, Corsica, New Zealand and has spent many a year travelling in Nepal, as well as paddling most of the main river systems.

Rhys has been working as a river, rock and mountain bike guide for the last ten years. Rhys is a passionate mountain biker and loves to spend his spare time building and riding new trails with his crazy trail dogs. Rhys also loves to enter the odd mountain marathon.

Sami Davies

Sami has spent all her life outdoors but the last 10 years following a career within ‘outdoor activities’. She started off as a climber but she now revels in the variety that different outdoor activities offer.

Her current hobbies are mountain biking and trail running but anything out and about is good with her.

She currently spends her winter teaching levels 1-3 ‘outdoor adventure’ courses at two local colleges and her summer guiding on the River Wye.

Peter Murphy

More commonly known as Smurph, he gained his Level 3 Canoe coaching qualification in January 2008. He has completed many safety courses, including White Water safety and rescue, and is also a qualified climbing instructor. Smurph has been a River Leader for Canoe trips across France, Spain and throughout the UK, and has worked as a freelance guide on the River Wye since 2009.

Smurph is a very focused and safe instructor, but in a very laid back manner. He can be mischievous at times, and always enjoys correctly timed banter.

As well as working for SUPYOFI, Smurph is currently studying a fulltime BSc PE and Outdoor Education degree at Worcester University, where he is an active member of both the climbing and mountaineering society, and the surf, canoe and Kayak society. Even with his busy schedule, Smurph still manages to make time to play rugby every Saturday at Kings Norton RFC in Birmingham.

David Windebank

David Windebank aka Windy is an accomplished Outdoor Teacher working at the forefront of the industry for the past 12 years as a Full Time Lecturer in Outdoor Education.

David started his career volunteering at his local canoe club based in the Thames Valley, where he quickly moved up the coaching scheme and become one of the youngest Kayak coaches in the country.

Since completing a BSc Hons Degree in Outdoor Education, David has continued to coach at a Regional and National level and delivers the UKCC Level 1 and Level 2 paddle sport coaching scheme in England and Wales.

David fell in love with SUP during a canoe symposium in North Wales, really enjoying its versatility as a competitive sport, leisure activity, or of course, just for fun!

Holly Griffin

holly

Holly currently spends her time working at a variety of centres whilst studying a degree in Outdoor Education in Carmarthenshire. She loves being outdoors, and started out as a horse rider but is now a bit of a ‘multi-activitier’ having spent many summers sea paddling and climbing. She first discovered stand up paddle boarding whilst working on Poole Harbour in Dorset, since then she has begun white water paddling and is definitely an area you’ll see her developing in!
